Jun 6, 2019 - About the Firm by Jay E. Mintzer

(June 2019) Phillip B. Silverman, Senior Litigation Counsel at the firm’s Eastern Pennsylvania office, was honored by the Philadelphia Association of Defense Counsel  as the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award during this year’s June 4th Annual Meeting. He was honored for his extraordinary 50 year career entirely focused on civil defense litigation.

The PADC is the professional organization of civil defense litigators in the Philadelphia Metropolitan Area. Mr. Silverman, lovingly referred to as “Uncle Phil” at MSZL&M, has been a member of the PADC since the 1970s. He joined as a young attorney and during his 40 year membership he has been deeply involved with the association. He served on the PADC’s Executive Committee. His involvement with PADC led him to sit on the civil litigation and arbitration committees of the Philadelphia Bar Association.

Mr. Silverman spent 30 years as an accomplished civil defense trial attorney. Then, in 1999, he moved to MSZL&M as Senior Litigation Counsel. He has served as a Judge Pro Tempore since the inception of the program and continues to today. He volunteers as an arbitrator in the Court of Common Pleas in Philadelphia. Despite receiving this Lifetime Achievement Award for such a long and illustrious career, Mr. Silverman continues to be a valuable resource at MSZL&M, and selflessly serve the legal community in Philadelphia.
