Phillip B. Silverman

 

     Phillip B. Silverman was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Temple University in 1964. Mr. Silverman earned his Law Degree from Rutgers University School of Law in 1967. He is admitted to practice in the states of Pennsylvania and New York.


     Mr. Silverman began his legal career as a staff litigation attorney for Reliance Insurance Company, serving from 1968 through 1970. He was the lead trial attorney in the field litigation office, Harris & Silverman, for the Insurance Company of North America, Cigna and ACE-USA from 1970 through 1999. In November, 1999, Mr. Silverman became Senior Litigation Counsel for Mintzer Sarowitz Zeris Ledva and Meyers.


     As a trial attorney of almost forty years, Mr. Silverman has litigated numerous matters before juries, courts and arbitrators in the Courts of Common Pleas of Pennsylvania and Federal District Courts. He has briefed and argued appeals in all of the Pennsylvania appellate courts and in the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. He is admitted in the Commonwealth of PA; the State of NY; the U.S.D.C. Eastern District of PA, Middle District, & Western District; and U.S. Court of Appeals, 3rd Circuit.


     Along with extensive experience handling routine tort litigation, Mr. Silverman has expertise with cases involving Medical and Non-Medical Malpractice, Emergency/Ambulance Squads, Nursing Care Liability, Civil Rights and Governmental Agency Litigation, Defamation, Products Liability, Dram Shop and Insurance Coverage.


     Mr. Silverman designed, coordinated and ran the Cigna Advocacy Institute, an in-house program for trial lawyers based on the NITA method. He has served as a guest faculty member for trial advocacy programs at Rutgers and Widener Schools of Law.


     Mr. Silverman also serves as a judge pro tempore and arbitrator in the Court of Common Pleas of Philadelphia County. He is a member of the Philadelphia and Pennsylvania Bar Associations; the PA Defense Institute; and the Philadelphia Association of Defense Counsel where he is a member of the Executive Committee.
