McHugh Leslie McHugh started her professional career in the field of nursing. She became a licensed registered nurse in 1980, and worked in the field for five years in three prestigious Boston-based hospitals, including Massachusetts General Hospital and New England Deaconess Hospital, both of which are major teaching affiliates of the Harvard Medical School, the latter also maintaining a significant affiliation with the world renowned Joslin Diabetes Clinic. She also worked at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, a teaching affiliate of Tufts Medical School. Throughout law school, Ms. McHugh worked in a law firm specializing in plaintiff's medical malpractice litigation. Her experience and familiarity with medical issues and the health care system provided a solid basis for her work there which included performing intake interviews and evaluations of new cases, preparing witnesses for trial, and drafting all forms of pleadings, as well as medical malpractice contentions. Following graduation from law school, Ms McHugh continued to forge a career which focused heavily on medical and health care litigation. Thus she became affiliated with the firm of Lester Schwab, Katz and Dwyer, in their "medical unit", immediately becoming involved in the defense of two major pharmaceutical companies (i.e. Merrell Dow and Burroughs Wellcome) in DES products liability litigation. Within a year, she was the sole associate in the firm handling their defense. While at Lester Schwab, Ms. McHugh also managed the defense of medical malpractice cases, as well as those involving other medical products, including contact lenses, breast implants, and L-Tryptophan, the latter two also falling into the category of "mass tort litigation". In 1993, Ms McHugh became affiliated with the Law Office of Ted Tobias, in house counsel to Fireman's Fund Insurance Company. Although her responsibilities included the defense of clients in premises, auto, labor law and products liability litigation, she continued to develop a specialty in professional malpractice. Her areas of concentration included insurance brokers' errors and omissions cases, as well as those involving the defense of practitioners in the allied health professions, such as nurses, occupational and physical therapists, and pharmacists. IN 2005, Ms McHugh signed on with Mintzer Sarowitz Zeris Ledva and Meyers, and immediately took on a case load that benefits from her many years of experience in the professional liability arena. Thus, she now handles all areas of malpractice including the defense of attorneys, accountants and, once again all types of allied health professionals. She also handles case involving auto liability, construction site accidents and other premises liability, and litigation involving first-party claims.
