Scott D. Kirschbaum
Mr. Kirschbaum is a partner in the firm's Florida office. He is formerly a native New Yorker having been born in Queens, New York, and graduated with Honors from Nova Southeastern University in 1989 with a business degree. He attended and graduated from the St. Thomas University School of Law in 1992 with Honors. While a law student, Mr. Kirschbaum served as an Articles Editor of the law review and received American Jurist Prudence in the areas of Torts, Civil Procedure, Securities Regulations and Constitutional Law. He also served as an officer with the Student Bar Association and was on the board of the Academic Standing Committee. Mr. Kirschbaum graduated in the top three percent of his class.
Mr. Kirschbaum immediately began his legal career in the throes of the disastrous Hurricane Andrew as an attorney for the United States Small Business Administration and for FEMA. As a government attorney, Mr. Kirschbaum participated in the financial rebuilding efforts of many businesses in southern Miami-Dade County after the storm. From there, Mr. Kirschbaum entered the realm of private practice in the area of insurance defense specializing in healthcare coverage and ERISA law representing health maintenance organizations and health insurers in first party coverage claims.
In 1995, while a trial attorney with the South Florida law firm of Adorno & Zeder, Mr. Kirschbaum was designated as national coordinating counsel for Travelers Insurance Company and United Healthcare. He managed and defended cases throughout the United States and in many of its territories. His practice then expanded into the areas of general liability, products liability, motor vehicle liability and professional and medical malpractice.
In 1997, Mr. Kirschbaum joined the firm of O'Connor & Meyers, where he practiced mainly in the areas of medical malpractice, general liability, and insurance coverage litigation. In 2001, Mr. Kirschbaum joined the Mintzer Sarowitz Zeris Ledva & Meyers firm in its Florida office, where he continues to practice in the fields of medical and professional malpractice, general liability, insurance coverage, motor vehicle and trucking liability, nursing home litigation, product liability, and insurance coverage. He has tried a number of cases to verdict in his practice.
